Wild Pig Management

Public
Public Wild Pig Management hunts serve several purposes. First, they help reduce the overall number of pigs on Tejon Ranch. At the same time, for hunters who know the ranch very well or who are expert pig hunters, they provide a lower cost hunting experience. Hunters with knowledge of the ranch or with good pig hunting skills can do very well on these hunts.

The Public Wild Pig Management hunts take place over 2 ½ days on ten specific weekends, from second weekend in December through the end of June. The entry fee for this hunt is payable with your application. These are access-only hunts, not guaranteed opportunity hunts, and they start at noon on Friday and extend through the end of the day on Sunday.

As a participant, you can camp on the ranch at no additional cost, stay in local motels and drive in and out on a daily basis, or commute from your residence if you are close enough. Our campgrounds are specific, designated areas that have no amenities or facilities; you must be fully self-contained and prepared to camp without leaving "footprints".

We do not allow any all terrain vehicles but do allow four wheel drive vehicles to hunt the vast road network that exists on the ranch.

You are allowed to take one pig only and the only harvest restriction is to refrain from taking lactating sows that are raising small piglets. All harvested pigs must be brought to the check station to be weighed. This helps us keep accurate harvest records and establishes your harvested pig's eligibility for prize money.

As a part of these hunts, the ranch will award a $500 prize to the hunter whose harvested pig weight comes closest to a number randomly drawn at the beginning of the hunt. The ranch also conducts a "Jackpot" contest for the biggest pig harvested. To participate, you must pay $10 to the pot and at the conclusion of the weekend the ranch will pay out all of the money collected to the three heaviest pigs harvested.

Private
Private Wild Pig Management hunts are conducted in the same manner the same as the public hunts except that they are for smaller private groups. These groups must have 8 hunters and can have up to 12. All of the same conditions apply that are in place for the public wild pig management hunts.

The cost of the private hunt is payable upon application, and these hunts can be scheduled during the week as well as on weekends. No prize money is offered on these hunts and camping is offered at no additional cost. An additional popular option for this hunt is to stay in one of the ranches hunting cabins. The cost for the cabin stay is in addition to your entry fee and depends on which cabin you choose. Call for daily charges for the various cabins that may be available.

Archery

The Archery Wild Pig Management hunt is similar to the public and private hunts except that it is designed to offer additional help to archers to help raise the rate of success. This is a 2½ day unguided hunt. The hunt includes meals, lodging and one of our guides working with your group. The guide will work with you by directing and assisting all the hunters in getting to areas that have active pig populations and informing them on how to successfully hunt these areas. As with all of our hunts, each hunter will be required to have hunting liability insurance, purchased from Bob Boggs Insurance. There must be a minimum of 8 hunters and can be up to 11 hunters.
