May I bring a non-hunter friend or spouse?

Due to the number of hunters involved in the actual hunt and our concern for your safety, we do not allow any of our regular members or their guests to be on the ranch during these hunts.  So, in keeping with that policy we do not allow any non-hunters to be on the ranch in conjunction with these hunts.

Does Tejon Ranch offer butcher service?

We generally have a person who will skin and cape pigs and prepare them to go to a butcher, but we do not have a butchering service.

Do you still do Pig-O-Rama hunts?

We have  renamed our former Pig-O-Rama hunt to Wild Pig Management hunt to more accurately describe the actual hunt.

What is the difference between a Wild Pig Management Hunt and a Pig-O-Rama?

It is the same hunt with a new name.

Does the ranch charge a "Trophy Fee"? Are there any hidden costs or fees?

We do not charge a "Trophy Fee" or have any other add-on fees that are incurred after the hunt begins.  You will pay your hunt fee, your insurance fee and that is all.

Boggs Insurance, do I have to buy for every hunt?

You only have to purchase the insurance from Boggs once a year; the year runs from September 1 through August 31. So, it doesn't matter how many hunts you participate in during the year, you only pay the fee to Boggs only one time.

Do you limit the number of hunters?

Enrollment is limited for each hunt and most of the hunts sell out, so if you plan to hunt it is best that get your paperwork completed and submitted at least 4-8 weeks prior to the date you want to hunt.

Do you allow ATV's?

We do not allow any motorized vehicles designed for off road use during any of our hunts.  You may use any full sized 2 or 4 wheel drive vehicle that is properly licensed for on road travel or any vehicle that is unlicensed, as long as it is properly insured, but no ATVs are permitted.

Can I harvest more than one pig?

No. You are authorized to take only one pig during any of our Wild Pig Management hunts.

What is the success percentage?

Success rates vary somewhat from hunt to hunt, but will generally be from 30-50%.  Overall, when we calculate the success rates over several hunts the success rate is 38-40%.

Are cabins available?

Cabins are available during all of our hunts, and generally are spoken for very early, so if you are interested in a cabin for your group, call early for price and availability.

Will anyone help us find the location(s) of the pigs?

All of our guides are available during these hunts and will freely share information on general areas where the pigs have been active as well as their thoughts on how to best hunt the ranch.  You will be given a phone list when you check in,  so feel free to contact anyone on the list if you need help or have problems.

What is the best caliber of gun for pig hunting?

We generally recommend any of the caliber from the .270 and up, with the 30 calibers being the best.  Anything from the .243 and down do not have the power to give the best result.

How long are the shots?

Shots can be from point blank out to 300-400 yards.  What's most important to consider is not the yardage of the shot that presents itself, but the yardage that you are capable of shooting.  If you have not practiced and become proficient at any distance, be it 100 or 300 yards, you should not attempt the shot.  Wounding a pig or missing a pig will cause a definite interruption of your hunt and may well cost you a reasonable chance for success.  Whatever your skill level  and whatever caliber you shoot, the best thing that you can do to insure success is to practice shooting before you come to hunt.

Can I use a pistol?  Is Archery allowed?

You can use any weapon that is legal in the State of California for the take of big game.  The important thing is that you know the effective range of your weapon and that you work close enough to the animal to be within that range.

Do you sell out any hunts?

Most all of the hunts will be sold out at least one week prior to the hunt.  Get your paperwork in early if you want to be sure to get in.

What size are the pigs?

Our harvested range of weights runs from 100-325 lbs. depending on the skill and luck of the individual hunter.  Most trophy boars will be over 250 lbs. while most meat pigs will be over 150 lbs.

Can I stay after I harvest my pig to help my buddy?

You can stay on the ranch and be in the field after you harvest, but you may not have in your possession any weapon capable of taking game.  If we encounter you in the field with a weapon after harvest, you will be escorted from the ranch and will not be allow to  participate in any future hunts.

Do you have an orientation before the hunt?

We conduct an orientation meeting immediately before each hunt, where you are given any last minute details regarding weather and road conditions, as well as current information on pig movement.  This information can be very valuable to your chances for success and you should plan to attend.

Do I have to attend the Orientation?

The orientation sessions are for you and they are designed to help your success and they are mandatory.  It doesn't matter how many times you have attended on other hunts, the information is timely and necessary.

Can I shoot squirrels or coyotes during the hunt?

No.  You are authorized to harvest one pig on this hunt, and not any other species.

Can I come to the ranch to pre-scout before the hunt?

We do not allow any access to anyone for pre-scouting, so when the hunt starts everyone is starting at the same place.

Do you give price discounts for groups?

We do not give any discounts for groups of any size or for any reason.

How many pigs are on the ranch?

The population varies from year to year depending on rainfall and the amount of feed, but at given time there will be from 5,000-6,000 pigs on the ranch.  We generally harvest at least 1,000 pigs a year during our various hunts.

What is the difference between the North and South areas of the ranch?

Actually, there is very little difference in the two areas; the terrain is essentially the same and each area contains approximately the same number of pigs.  The success rate, when calculated over several hunts, is often about the same.  Hunters that prefer either the North or the South usually do so because that is where they have hunted the most and are most comfortable with that area.  For the first time hunter there is no difference.

How can I get a Tejon cap or tee-shirt?

Merchandise will be available for purchase during the registration period immediately before each hunt.  This may include maps, caps, dress shirts, tee shirts, and sweatshirts.

Do I need a hunting license to hunt on Tejon Ranch?

Even though the Tejon Ranch is private land, everyone who hunts here must have a current hunting license and pig tag.
